How involved do I (the client) need to be in the project?

We encourage client involvement to ensure the outcome matches your vision, but we also know you’re busy. The typical involvement required from you will be:

  • Initial Input: High involvement at the start – giving us information about your business, your goals, your preferences (design style, example sites you like, etc.). We may have a questionnaire or discussions to get all the details.
  • Providing Materials: You might need to supply logos, existing brand assets, or content (text, photos) if you have them. If you need us to create content or obtain images, that reduces your involvement on that front, but we’ll still need your approval.
  • Feedback Rounds: When we share design mockups or prototypes, we need your feedback and decisions. This is critical – timely, specific feedback keeps the project on schedule. Expect to review designs and note what you like or want changed. Same when we show the developed site – click through it and let us know if anything isn’t as expected.
  • Meetings & Approvals: Attend scheduled review meetings (or promptly review things on your own time) and sign off on milestones (like approving the design to move into development).
  • Content Review: You should review all the content on the site (we do our best with proofreading, but you know your business terminology best). Ensuring phone numbers, addresses, product details, etc., are correct – your eyes on those help.
  • Testing: It’s helpful if you can test the site from a user perspective during the review phase – fill forms, go through a checkout if applicable – and report any issues or suggestions.
  • Final Approval & Launch Coordination: Give the go-ahead when you’re satisfied so we can launch. If launch timing needs coordination (e.g., replacing an old site), we’ll work with you on scheduling to minimize disruption.

Beyond these, your involvement is up to you. Some clients like to be very hands-on (checking in daily, adjusting copy themselves), while others are fairly hands-off (trusting us to make a lot of decisions). We adapt accordingly. We do find projects tend to succeed most when the client is engaged and responsive, providing feedback and content in a timely manner – it just prevents delays and misdirection. But we understand you might have limited time, so we try to make the process as turnkey as possible for you.

In short, you’ll be involved at key points and we’ll guide you on what we need. We handle the heavy lifting; you provide the high-level direction and approvals. Think of it as us being the “contractor” building a house – you tell us the style you want, pick some fixtures (choices), and check in as it’s built, but you don’t have to lay the bricks yourself. Your involvement ensures the end result feels like your website, not just a generic one.
